An honest Sendy alternative

Sendy is self-hosted newsletter software you buy once and run on your own PHP and MySQL server, sending through Amazon SES. Terlido Newsletter is hosted, sends each issue from your own mailbox, and can import your Sendy lists in one go. Here is an honest look at both.

Pricing, as of November 2026

Sendy is a one-time license, valid for one domain, with free updates up to the next major version. You pay Amazon SES (or another supported provider) separately for sending; Sendy cites $1.60 per 10,000 emails through SES. An optional installation service is a one-time fee.

Where Sendy is stronger

  • No monthly fee: one license, and sending costs only what Amazon SES charges.
  • Sending goes through Amazon SES or another bulk provider, not a single mailbox. Terlido sends from your mailbox at your provider's pace, so a big list can take more than a day.
  • You host it, so your list stays on your own server.

Where Terlido is stronger

  • Nothing to install, host or update: Terlido is a hosted app.
  • Import from Sendy: upload your Sendy list exports and Terlido reads each file's status, putting bounced and spam addresses on your suppression list.
  • Issues go out from your own mailbox (Gmail, Microsoft 365 or any SMTP server), so readers see your address and replies land in your own inbox.
  • Terlido Free covers up to 10,000 subscribers, with a welcome automation.

Who Terlido Newsletter is for

For: Writers, founders and small teams who want to send a newsletter from their own address and read replies in their own inbox.

Not a fit:

  • Paid newsletters. Terlido has no paid subscriptions or paywall.
  • Sending a big list in one burst. Terlido sends from your mailbox at your provider's pace, so a large list can take more than a day.
  • Lists of people who never agreed to hear from you.

Which one should you pick?

Pick Sendy if: You send to a big list often, are happy to run a server and Amazon SES, and want the lowest cost per email.

Pick Terlido if: You are tired of keeping a server and SES account running, and want issues to come from your own address.

Terlido Newsletter is new and has no customer logos or open-rate numbers to show you. The fastest way to judge it is to connect a mailbox on the Free plan and send yourself a test issue.

Moving your newsletter from Sendy

Your subscribers move as a file. Imported people are active at once and get no confirmation email, so import only people who are still subscribed. Past issues and reports stay in Sendy, so keep what you need before you cancel.

  1. In Sendy, export each list: the Active export, plus the Unsubscribed, Bounced and Marked as spam exports if you want them. Use Active, not All or Unconfirmed, and keep the file names.
  2. In Terlido Newsletter, create your brand and give it a mailbox to send from: connect Gmail, Microsoft 365 or any IMAP/SMTP mailbox, and tick Newsletter for it.
  3. In Terlido, on Subscribers, click Import from Sendy and upload 1 to 8 files (up to 10 MB each, 25 MB together). Terlido reads each file's status from its name, and bounced and spam addresses go on your suppression list.
  4. Point your signup form at Terlido, then stop sending from Sendy before your first Terlido issue goes out.

Terlido Free covers the move up to its subscriber limit, so you can switch before you pay anything. Read the import guide
