Follow-up email
A follow-up email is a later step in a cold email sequence that adds a new point or a simple question to the first message.
Most people do not answer the first cold email, and often it is not because they dislike it. They are busy, or they saw it and forgot. A follow-up gives them a second chance. Many replies to cold email come from the steps after the first.
A good follow-up is short and adds something: a related result, a short example, a clearer question or a different angle. 'Just checking in' adds nothing and trains people to ignore you. Keep the follow-up in the same thread when it fits, so the person sees the earlier message.
Spacing matters. Wait a few days between steps and avoid weekends in the prospect's time zone. Stop after a few follow-ups. If a prospect has not answered after several clear tries, more emails raise the risk of spam complaints and bring little reward. Always stop the sequence on a reply, and respect every opt-out.
